While I did like they went much more indepth into the origins of the artifact and its relationship to Sparhawk, it did seem like it was an attempt to retcon its antagonistic relationship to Sparhawk in the previous trilogy.

Okay, so it’s possible David Eddings has a bit of a formula with his stories, and he repeats it, but that doesn’t change the fact that the way he writes is purely enjoyable, and this series is no different.

Lots of interesting angles on politics, religion, race, friendship. And then smothering her with sincerity, as she’d suspect everyone else of ulterior motives.
