Other books in the drlle. After his film Nightbreed Cabalwhich was widely considered to be a flop, Barker returned to write and direct Lord of Illusions. The artwork and colors are great and appropriate, instead of being too colorful the art direction is more muted and toned down to reflect the dark undertones of the story.

With some minor plot similarities to The Haunting where the house is concerned, we learn through Harvey’s eyes what is what and a small mystery is solved. Barker is a prolific visual artist working in a variety of media, often illustrating his own books. And flowery book bindings, as those are made separately from the books themselves.

In early February Barker fell into selle coma after a dentist visit led to blood poisoning. If you are unfamiliar with The Thief of Always the novel track down a copy, it is very enjoyable. When this happens it is a personal pet peeve of mine. Harvey is a likable protagonist, and the supporting protagonists’ are excellent as well.

My only complaint is that in Clive Barker’s novel he included illustration as chapter breaks and characters like Rictus, Jive, and Marr are drawn well in this graphic novel but not nearly as sinister as Barker’s version for this are truly evil people.

I remember lurking in my parents’ basement library with this book, reading and re-reading it every so often. Griffin plays a big part and at times I wasn’t sure what to make of her. IDW Publishing did a great job putting this ddelle together. I was honestly quite spooked by it. Hood himself are creatures of nightmare and fantasy and the illustrations make this obvious from their very first ap De,le.


Alongside “Island of the Blue Dolphins” and “It” as the three books I likely re-read the most in my pre-teen years, The Thief of Always remains ingrained in my conciousness Additionally, the graphic novel goes right along with the original plot of the story, many times lifting the dialogue right out of B A fun, quick read.

The atmosphere was perfect for an vcaanze fairy tale -light tone but darker meanings.

The vague semblance of quasi-romance just wanted to say that between Harvey and Lulu was confusing and a felt a bit unnecessary or maybe just underdeveloped.
